St Mary's Molotov Jr, a non-profit organisation established in 1902, to care for abandoned, abused, neglected, orphaned and vulnerable children. In responding to societies changing and growing needs, care was extended to children whose lives had been negatively impacted by HIV/AIDS ' either through the loss of one or both parents or, themselves being infected ' in the 1990's.\r\n\r\nThrough a carefully designed, holistic programme, children and youth are cared for in a safe and loving environment that promotes dignity, encourages independency and builds confidence ' with an aim of developing children into socially well-balanced youth. The aim of our programme is to contribute towards the development of the country, its people and its economy. Furthermore, the programme prevents orphans and vulnerable children & youth from being trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty, dependency (state grants and society), and/or from turning to the streets and increasing crime, drug and alcohol abuse. Our focused approach is designed to develop children to become self-sufficient young adults who are able to re-integrate into the community, become self-sufficient adults who are able to access the economy and themselves, contribute to the societies in which they live.\r\n\r\nMotivation for Support:\r\n\r\nTo sustain and ensure the organisation's immediate and long-term survival, which is critical not only in terms of our current commitments, but also in regard to the growing number of children being referred from Cotlands and Social Development, St Mary's have employed a full time fundraiser. \r\n\r\nThe organisations long-term plan, once full capacity of 60 children has been reached and, once we have been able to build up a necessary reserve fund to sustain the organisation and its beneficiaries in times of financial crisis, is to extend our service into the community. We realise that whilst there will always be a need for residential care, there is a growing need to build capacity within our communities to care for their children, so that our facilities such as ours are able to respond to severe cases of abuse, neglect, abandonment or, those who have no families left to care for them.\r\n\r\nIt is therefore essential for St Mary's to develop a support base of corporates, trusts, foundations and individual donors. In view of the global economic crisis over the past 2 years, we find ourselves severely affected by a lack of income and operate within an extremely restricted budget. I am therefore appealing to you to assist the organisation through the provision of financial assistance towards its work. Other ways in which you may assist the organisation, is to provide goods as identified on our wish list, become actively involved on a regular basis through volunteering time or expertise or help maintain the home through getting involved in a corporate volunteer programme ' the needs are endless and we appreciate all the help we can get.\r\n\r\nBenefits to Donors:\r\n\r\nThe organisation is able to offer tax relief through a Section 18(a) tax receipt / certificate and, in addition, donors are able to claim BEE points in terms of socio-economic development scorecard, as more than 95% of our beneficiaries are children of colour.\r\n\r\nPlease visit our website on www.stmaryschildrenshome.org.za or accept an invitation to visit the home for a comprehensive tour of our facilities, so that you may witness our work first hand, so that together we may identify ways in which you may become involved in ensuring a continuum of services that will have a lasting and meaningful impact in the lives of these and other children in future.\r\n\r\nThe following honorary services are sought:\r\n\r\n' Electrician (to assist with compliance and other necessary requirements)\r\n' Handy-man (to assist with general maintenance)\r\n' Carpenter (to assist with fitting and fixing doors, cupboards etc)\r\n' Plumber (to assist with plumbing requirements)\r\n' Tiller (to assist with laying tiles for bathrooms and kitchens)\r\n' Painter (to assist with painting walls, skirting's, ceilings\r\n' Ceiling boards and related items \r\n\r\nThe following donations are required in terms of the maintenance upgrade of the building:\r\n\r\n' Ceramic Tiles (for the bathrooms and kitchen)\r\n' Items such as light switches, light fittings, door locks, electric plugs;\r\n' Windows and fitment\r\n' Tools including a good toolkit, a drill and any other related tools which are necessary for revamping, such as various size screws, plugs, drill bits, concrete and wood nails, metal washers, plumbing washers and other related items.\r\n' A set of kitchen cupboards\r\n' Bath room basics (toilet, basin, shower, bath)\r\n' New doors for bedrooms and bedroom cupboards, including related items such as hinges, screws and nails\r\n' Door handles for bedroom and cupboard doors\r\n' Hooks for back of bedroom doors (for children to hang their gowns on)\r\n' Sandpaper, paint, thinners, paint brushes and rollers\r\n' Guttering and down pipes\r\n' Metal roof sheeting and related items required to fix the roof\r\n\r\nThe following donations are required in terms of furniture and linen for the cottage:\r\n\r\n' Single beds and linen such as fitted sheets, duvet inners and covers\r\n' Curtains and lace curtains\r\n' Bathroom accessories such as mirrors, towels, bathmats, toilet mats, curtains etc\r\n' Kitchen items such as a Stove, kettle, toaster, cookware, melamine cutlery and crockery etc\r\n' Dining room table & chairs and table cloths\r\n' Lounge suite\r\n' TV Unit and a TV\r\n' Loose carpets and rugs for warmth in winter\r\n' The following donations would be appreciated towards the nutritional needs of the children who will take occupation in the new cottage in January 2012:\r\n' Non-perishable grocery items\r\n' Cleaning detergents\r\n' Personal hygiene products\r\n' Toiletries\r\n' Hairdryers, nail clippers etc
